Gifting Film Script
RESONATE RouterUPS is a black cube-shaped object that would not typically make for a heartfelt gift. A story was scripted using the UPS as a symbol of affection and a sincere token of friendship.
The New Girl
INT. APARTMENT CORRIDOR - DAYTIME
Anya, a woman in her mid-twenties is holding a basket of cupcakes and bread. She walks towards a door embossed with the label “Ramakrishnan Residency”. She knocks on the door.
She hears the door being unlocked and unbolted. An old man answers, frail but standing upright and tall. A chain secures the door to the wall, and he talks to her through the gap.
He slams the door before she can finish her sentence. He watches her walk to her apartment from the peephole.
ANYA
(gesturing to the house next door)
Hello Uncle! I just moved in -
RAMAKRISHNAN
Whatever you’re trying to sell, I’m not interested.
ANYA
No, no, I’m not -
INT. APARTMENT CMPLEX - DAYTIME
Anya is returning from a run. She sees Ramakrishnan holding heavy grocery bags. He is pushing the lift button repeatedly, but it’s out of order. He grunts and walks towards the staircase.
Anya rushes toward him.
She offers to carry his bags for him. He violently shakes his head no, annoyed, and starts walking up the stairs.
ANYA
There’s a power cut again, Uncle?
RAMAKRISHNAN
(nods dismissively)
ANYA
Do you need help carrying these?
INT. ANYA'S APARTMENT - A RAINY EVENING
Anya is sitting at her desk in a shirt and tailored pants, attending a work call. Her furniture looks new. Unpacked boxes are stacked neatly in a corner. She’s sitting at her desk in a shirt and tailored pants, attending a work call.
The power goes off and her screen shows that she’s offline. She clicks on the Wi-Fi symbol, desperately looking for a connection. She notices a single network - Ramakrishnan Residency Wi-Fi.
Interior Ramakrishnan’s apartment. The house is shrouded in darkness. He is watching a cricket match on his tablet, his eyes barely two inches from the screen.
He hears a hurried knock on his door. He answers it to see Anya clutching her laptop. She looks panicked.
He is irritated but she looks so distressed that he lets her in anyway. He picks up his tablet and continues watching the match. As she enters, she apologises profusely.
ANYA
I’m so sorry to bother you, but your Wi-Fi is still working?
RAMAKRISHNAN
(grunting)
Yes.
ANYA
Could I please use it? I have this really important call to attend.
RAMAKRISHNAN
Come in.
ANYA
(Sighing in relief)
Thank you.
(Stumbling over her words)
My data is also not working, this is really important to me, I wouldn’t have bothered you if I had any other option…
She settles herself on a wicker chair. He hands her a sticky note with the Wi-Fi password on it and she rejoins her meeting. Her face is lit only by the light from her screen. The old man looks up from his tablet and glances at her every few minutes, waiting for her to leave.
An hour passes by. She closes her laptop, stands up and thanks him. As she’s leaving, she notices the match playing on his tablet and comments on it. The old man perks up, surprised to find their interests aligning.
He scoots a little, making space for her to sit with him on his couch. He extends the tablet towards her. She sits down and they watch the match together.
ANYA
Thanks Uncle, you really saved the day.
Just like how Sharma will save us today.
RAMAKRISHNAN
Nobody can come close to The Wall.
ANYA
That is true.
INT. APARTMENT CORRIDOR - DAYTIME

She smiles back. He returns to his house but leaves his door open, signalling to her that she’s welcome anytime.
ANYA
What is this for?
RAMAKRISHNAN
(Smiling)
